  • Mrs. Merav Tal-Timen, Hebrew Chair, was born and raised in Israel, where she earned a B.A. in Education from the David Yellin College for Education in Jerusalem. She taught in several schools in Israel before coming to the United States. She is now studying toward her Master of Arts degree in Jewish Education. Mrs. Tal-Timen joined the Ma’ayanot faculty in 1998, and has since been involved in teaching Hebrew Language and Literature, and chairing the Hebrew Department. She advises the Hebrew newspaper, Michutz Lakufsa, as well as the Israel Awareness Committee’s many programs, and also initiated and directs the Kochav NoladCompetition, which brings Israeli songs and poetry to our student body. Mrs. Tal-Timen encourages her students’ love for and devotion to the Hebrew language and the land of Israel.

  • Mrs. Tamar Appel, Assistant Principal, has brought her passion for teaching to Ma'ayanot since 2004, when she became a teacher of Hebrew, American History, and Jewish History at the school.  She has served as Chairperson of the History, Jewish History, and Jewish Philosophy Departments, and she designed the school's Modern Jewish History curriculum.  She also administers the Tikvah High School Scholars program, an advanced course of study for select seniors, at Ma'ayanot. Mrs. Appel has a B.A. and an M.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania, where she also completed her coursework toward a Ph.D. and won the Penn Prize for Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching.  She is committed not only to guiding students toward intellectual development, but also to helping them find their own personal paths as young Jewish women.

  • Drora Arussy, EdD, MJS, is the proud parent of 5 children and a wife to one very understanding husband. Currently she is an adjunct professor at Drew University and Ramapo College. She has served as an the Hebrew Coordinator for Hebrew in America from the JES of the UJANNJ as well as coordinated and created curricula while training teachers in Cleveland, Israel, San Francisco and New Jersey. She has taught students from pre-school through adults mid-career, published several curricula and conducted workshops for teachers on incorporating the arts into curricula around the world. She directed several plays in the US and Israel and has worked on many formal and informal education projects and believe that flexibility and variety are keys to success. She has directed many plays in community theater as well as school programs. She received her BA in Theater Arts; Religion at Case Western Reserve University, her MA in Jewish Studies: Education from the Cleveland College of Jewish Studies and EdD in Educational Administration at California Coast University. Her background in theater has added an artistic flavor to everything she does including my teaching and curricula. In training teachers she always encourages a bit of wackiness and flexibility.
