We are pleased to announce that Ma’ayanot’s Annual Scholarship Fund Dinner will be held iy”h on Saturday evening, March 9, 2013 at 8:30pm at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. At this year’s dinner, we are delighted to be presenting four awards in recognition of outstanding service to our school. Our annual dinner is dedicated to underwriting Ma’ayanot’s scholarship program and is the only major fundraising campaign for the year.
It is a distinct pleasure to present this year’s Keter Shem Tov Award to Esti and Benyamin Kaminetzky. Esti’s and Ben’s commitment and dedication to Maayanot’s mission, and to its continued growth and success, help ensure that our school remains as a center for academic excellence in both secular and Torah education. Ben has been a member of the Executive Board of Directors since 2007. His sage advice and counsel is frequently sought throughout a given school year. Esti has served as a member of the Education Committee, and has worked extensively in our recruitment efforts. Their oldest daughter, Rikva, a member of the Class of 2011, is completing her shana bet studies at Migdal Oz and will enter Stern College next semester. Their son Shai is a senior at MTA and their son Zvi is in the 10th grade at TABC. Their daughter Malka (Ma’ayanot Class of 2018) is in the 7th grade at SAR and sons Ari and Yisroel are in 5th and 3rd grades at RYNJ. We are excited to recognize Esti and Ben for their loyalty and dedication to Ma’ayanot.
The Ma’ayanot Parents of the Year Award will be presented to Sara and Ira Olshin. Sara’s and Ira’s devotion to Ma’ayanot over the past four years has greatly contributed to its success. Sara has worked tirelessly with the Adult Education Committee in establishing many series of shiurim given by our Ma’ayanot faculty for the community. Their daughter Rachel is a member of the Class of 2013 and their son Meir is a 9th grader in the Sinai program at TABC. We are proud to honor Sara and Ira for their service to Ma’ayanot.
This year’s Teacher of the Year Award will be presented to Mrs. Gila Stein, our esteemed Science Chair. Mrs. Stein came to Ma’ayanot in 2004 and, since then, has vastly enriched our students’ science education by her scholarship, as well as her skill and clarity in the classroom. Mrs. Stein is a vital member of the Ma’ayanot faculty, teaching Chemistry, Physics, and AP Chemistry. She also strives to provide every student with a broad and deep knowledge of fundamental scientific principles through active, hands-on learning. At the same time, despite her busy schedule, she is still able to provide additional science help by conducting workshops for individuals or small groups during free periods. Her caring and concern for her students is what makes Mrs. Stein the perfect choice for Teacher of the Year.
It is a special privilege this year to present Mr. Art Carpenter with the Ma’ayanot Service Award. It is not often that a hockey coach can have such a significant impact on a school, especially when it is a girls’ yeshiva high school. Art has been defying all odds, though, ever since he arrived at Ma’ayanot in 2002. During his tenure as coach, he led the Ma’ayanot hockey team to nine championships, without suffering a defeat in the team’s last eight seasons. But what really set Art apart, however, was the way he went about winning. He was unrivaled in his exemplary character and in the demeanor in which he led his players. They would play for him the way he led them – respectfully, and with great sportsmanship and grace. We are pleased to have this opportunity to express our deepest thanks for all his years of service in shaping and molding our girls both on and off the court.
Ma’ayanot faces an increasing scholarship burden in this ongoing difficult economic environment. Your participation in this year’s Dinner will allow Ma’ayanot to continue to provide aid to a growing number of families experiencing financial pressure. This year, our scholarship fund distributed over $1,000,000 in financial aid and we anticipate even higher amounts may be necessary next year. To download a pledge form for your use and distribution, click here. In addition, reservations and donations are being accepted online by clicking here. Please feel free to call us with any questions or suggestions or to volunteer your help with this very important event.
Please join the Ma’ayanot family on this special evening by attending our dinner and by contributing generously to the scholarship campaign as we show Hakarat Hatov to these most deserving honorees. We look forward to greeting you on March 9th.
Thank you for your support.
